About the artist

Anna Sorensen Sargent is a London-based freelance commission artist in a very wide range of media. She is most often commissioned to produce bespoke, one-off costumes and accessories for theatre and LARP clients, but has also been called on by museums and the legal profession to make replicas for display and to handle repairs.

Following a first class MA Hons in English and 12 years in publishing as an editor, Anna switched tracks in 2009 and undertook intensive training at the highly-regarded 'Greasepaint' school, studying make-up, hair and wigs, prosthetics, and special effects for theatre and film. She worked in theatre and on film, where her academic background in literature and historical context proved particularly useful when working between costume, wig and make-up departments. Anna then realised that she would be even more useful if she could use a sewing machine, so enrolled at local night-classes, attaining City & Guilds and NCFE certificates in garment making, corsetry and millinery. She also undertook internships at the Royal Opera House and Angels the Costumier, working on ballet, opera, film and television productions.

Anna's hand-blocked, hand-embroidered 'Ragnarok' hat (the second hat she ever made) won third prize in the international millinery competition, 'The Feltmaker Award' 2012, and her costume designs (75% handmade by Anna, 25% hired to match design) for Fair Em (The Union Theatre, London) were nominated for an Offie award in 2013.

Anna has recently focused on one-off, bespoke work for individuals (actors, directors and private clients), which allows her to research the details and historical/fantasy context before designing and fabricating unique pieces to fit the client's brief. Historic (or historically inspired) costumes remain a speciality.
